words....

a very good friend lent me some magazines
that have been inspiration to her over the years.
It's called The Sun.

the first article i came across was about
the ancient power of poetry.
like many of you i grew up reading poetry,
having to memorize it in school and
often not connecting to it.
as an adult poetry has come and gone in my life.

the article was about Kim Rosen and her
philosophy on poetry.
it goes something like this,
there is value in becoming a "disciple"
to a poem written by someone else
and that poems can be powerful medicine
for the mind, body and soul.

it got me thinking about poetry again
and how it has a certain power to connect
that a novel, a article or a quote does not.

this brought me to reading some of my
favorite poets.
i thought maybe i would share.

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
